Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, in a video released today, announced that she supports gay marriage, claiming gays and lesbians are “Equal and full citizens who deserve the rights of citizenship.”
“This includes the right to marry,” Clinton said in an online video that was released today by the gay rights support group, the Human Rights Campaign. Clinton, in the video, adds that she backs homosexual marriage both on a personal level and as a matter of
law and general policy.”
Clinton’s video is a maneuver that the Associated Press claims “is certain to add fuel to the rampant
speculation that she is considering to run for president in 2016.”
It has been less than one year since the Obama administration switched its stance and endorsed same sex marriage. As the Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton has not had much of an opportunity to comment on domestic issues until she resigned from her post early last month.
Clinton may also be interested in clearing the air from her first go around as first lady. Ironically enough, it was her husband Bill who signed the Defense of
Marriage Act into formal law in 1996, and the Pentagon’s “don’t ask, don’t tell” policy that also came into fruition under her husband’s watch.
In the nearly six minute video, Clinton talks about her trip to Geneva last year when she told the world that the United States would be a leader in fighting for gay rights. Clinton claims “gay rights are human rights and human rights are gay rights.” Clinton mentions that several countries were strongly opposed to her statement; however, as Americans, Clinton claims that freedom for all is not only in our rich history, but also in our DNA.
